The Gateway

The Gateway transforms how Ann Arbor residents and students connect to the Huron River, and how county-wide community members access downtown Ann Arbor. This iconic pedestrian and cycling route creates a seamless link between the riverfront, campus, and the heart of our city.

This northern segment of the Treeline addresses a critical gap in Ann Arbor's infrastructure for people walking and biking. An analysis from People For Bikes identifies this area as one of high cycling stress, where high-volume motor vehicle traffic creates challenging conditions for both cyclists and pedestrians.

We are conducting a $2.8 million campaign to fund the Gateway’s design, support property acquisition, and sustain the organizational efforts to advance this transformation. We are preparing to place the Gateway into the hands of the engineers and designers who will draft this community vision into a buildable reality.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we are just shy of our $2.8 million goal by less than $300,000.

We officially released a Request for Proposal (RFP) in late June, inviting some of the world's leading trail, bridge, and infrastructure design firms to help bring the Treeline's northern Gateway Segment to life through final design and engineering.

Releasing this RFP represents years of effort by advocates, public partners, and supporters who have believed in this vision from the beginning. Their investment helped sustain the vision and build the momentum that has brought us to this important milestone.
